Chain Bridge Forge and the Community

The project is about expanding the work that has already been completed in preserving Chain Bridge Forge and recording its history. It will concentrate on telling the history of the community around the Forge in Spalding and that of the wider area of South Holland.

The vision is to collect information through oral history techniques and the research of local publication and make this information available on a purpose built website. The project will also work with the University of Lincoln and 5 local schools to provide additional information and support its development.

The output to this project will be as follows:

  1. A Website with searchable database (http://chainbridgeforge.sholland.org/ and http://www.southhollandlife.com)
  2. Copies of Oral histories and there Transcripts
  3. Schools have visited Chain Bridge Forge and experience of Blacksmithing and through the University of Lincoln give them new skills which will enable them to contribute to the project and produce material which will be available on the website.
  4. A Guide to enable a Walk of Historic Spalding
  5. A video which illustrates local history and is available for the Community
